Wanting and Believing
There is a profound psychological chasm between 'wanting' a financial goal and 'believing' in its inevitability.
When we merely want something, we are inadvertently reinforcing a state of lack; the very act of wanting signals to the brain that the objective is currently missing, which can trigger a subtle, subconscious stress response. However, when we shift into the mindset of acting as if, we begin to bridge this gap.
By aligning our current behaviours with the version of ourselves that has already achieved financial mastery, we bypass the subconscious resistance that often sabotages our efforts. This resistance is the mind’s natural desire to keep us safe within our current comfort zone, even if that zone is one of financial struggle.
When we act with the confidence of someone who has already secured their future, we lower the internal alarm bells that usually resist change.
This shift is backed by the mechanics of the Reticular Activating System (RAS) - the brain’s sophisticated filtering system located in the brain stem.
The RAS is responsible for deciding which information is worth our conscious attention and which should be ignored. When you move from passive wanting, to active belief, you essentially program your RAS with a new set of instructions.
Suddenly, it begins to highlight opportunities, resources, and connections that were previously invisible to you. By acting as if you are already a disciplined steward of your wealth, your RAS treats your financial goals as a top priority, filtering the world to find the paths that lead to that reality.
It isn’t magic; it is the science of focus, allowing you to notice the exact tools - like a new investment opportunity or a way to optimise your finances - that will manifest the prosperity you have already claimed in your mind.
True prosperity is a holistic achievement that extends far beyond the digits in a bank account; it is the integration of financial security, physical vitality, and a clear sense of purpose.
While market fluctuations and economic shifts are often outside our influence, we have total agency over how we move our bodies and the intentions behind our daily actions.
Maintaining peak physical fitness ensures we have the energy and longevity to enjoy the wealth we build, while a deep-rooted purpose provides the 'why' that keeps us resilient during challenges.
