THE SCHOOL OF MONEY MENTORS
THE SCHOOL OF MONEY MENTORS
Welcome to the School of Money Mentors
Our mission is simple, to build a community of like-minded money mentors. We want to bridge the gap between complex financial systems and everyday lived experience. Traditional, top-down or bottom up financial advice, is failing to meet the challenges of today, so we want to create a space where people can share ideas, and understand the psychological and systemic structures that govern our financial choices.
Mentors are the translators of the language of money - empowering hard-working people to move beyond financial confusion, and compound loss, and build long-term resilience and regional economic mobility.
Financial clarity is not just about spreadsheets, it's about reclaiming the freedom to make informed choices for a more financially secure future.
We're building 'The School of Money Mentors' from the ground up
so please bear with us whilst we construct this page.
Financial guidance currently exists at two extremes. At one end, regulated financial advice manages life savings and investments - essential, but often inaccessible to the many. At the other, crisis management steps in when debt or hardship has already taken hold. This leaves a vast 'silent majority' in the middle: people who aren't in crisis but aren't being served by traditional wealth management. Without a clear route to guidance, potential is lost, and avoidable mistakes become permanent.
The School of Money Mentors exists to resolve financial friction before it sparks. Think of it as proactive financial foresight. We don’t wait for the drama of a crisis; we equip mentors with the tools and knowledge to help others navigate the everyday decisions that dictate their long-term freedom.
One of the most critical conversations we facilitate is the reality of opportunity cost. It isn't just about what you spend; it’s about the unimagined compound loss experienced when money is used without purpose.
By teaching people to recognise these 'invisible' costs, we help them build genuine resilience and move from simply getting by, to building a foundation of financial resilience for the future.
The Reality of Personal Finance - The Uncomfortable Truth
From self-help books to money gurus on TV, the focus is, and always has been, on us as individuals. This is very important, money management is a very important life skill, but it isn't the whole picture. We've been conditioned to think that government will always have our best interests at heart, we trust them, as the public servants they are meant to be, to create the conditions for health, work and opportunity - a good life for every tax paying citizen. But the truth is something quite different.
In the School of Money Mentors, we will be discussing the systemic issues that are preventing the majority of us of obtaining a healthy financial life - to understand the game and to know what we're up against, might give us a fighting chance in a rapidly changing world.
We have a responsibility to ourselves and society, to contribute to a better future.
But we also have a duty to challenge systems that are rigged against us, and if you think for one minute that I'm talking about some kind of movement, you'd be wrong. Western economic systems have been extremely successful over the last 150 years; not perfect, but the best solution we've come up with so far.
But, like many things, without transparency: systems that involve lots of money, people, influence, opportunity, complexity and the passage of time - are vulnerable to coordinated self-interest - we see this today in our political and economic systems - rigged in the interests of the few.
When we allow and ignore increased structural obscurantism (jargon in other words) and when we fail to carry out regular checks and balances, and when we fail to educate ourselves and our young people in the language of money, we risk drifting further and further away from a financial system that is fair for all - to a one that favours the financially and politically powerful by default.
Please support my work - this is a new venture, with the aim of providing financial education in the UK - (the stuff that's never taught in schools !) - this will help me to provide more useful information, session plans, ideas, research papers, and even video guides.
